ABOUT US

Soapbox was created in 2022, after Holly became significantly frustrated with the lack of opportunities to join the dance sector within the South West region. Holly has spent the last 4 years working and developing within the sector. Interning and freelancing at local NPO Pavilion Dance South West, and at local schools, colleges and universities. Holly is now a permanent dance lecturer, directing and delivering dance at a local FE and HE college. In which she still witnesses the same struggles she went through as a new graduate located in the South West.

Soapbox was created to fill that gap.

Aims

We aim to produce authentic work, by amplifying voices and issues of today. Create paid performance opportunities, to allow graduates paid experience. We aim to make theatre accessible.

Mission

Our primary mission and goal is to create paid work opportunities for creative graduates based in the southwest region. By giving new graduates a community in the southwest from which they can continue to explore performance, without the need to move away to big cities.

Soapbox aims to produce authentic and accessible dance theatre, based on the issues of today, that can be toured around the region, visiting a range of fringe and dance venues.
By creating paid professional opportunities, we the hope that we can help graduates into the sector and encourage creatives to stay and build the cultural identity of the South West.

Our secondary focus is enhancing dance development within the local community. By holding weekly open classes for all people 16+. This will also act as a way to fund our company.

We create spaces for everyone to have a voice equally through collaboration and laughter. We make work that has a narrative, is often funny, sometimes moving and authentic. We value the voice of today and what young creatives have to say on the issues they face.
We value fair and accessible performance opportunities. This means doing what we can to open our company to all creative graduates, implementing pay what you can tickets and continuing to learn about what can be done to facilitate equal opportunities.
